My mornings are, to say the least, busy. During the week, I'm getting up at 5:30 a.m. Between then and 6 a.m., when the twins wake up, I [try to] get completely ready for work - shower, blow dry, make up, dressed – and my husband and I do all the morning things - attend to the dog and cats, trash, prep breakfast, etc. Oh, and coffee. Copious amounts of coffee.
On top of all of this, the twins (and I) wake up starving. I would like to say I wake up starving because, well, pregnancy, but that's just not the case. I've always woken up hungry. Breakfast is my favorite meal and skipping is a sure bet to a disastrous day. Apparently, the same goes for the twins, however, unlike me, when they are hungry they scream.
To prevent the morning scream sesh, I get their breakfast almost completely ready before I get them out of bed at 6. If it's something that can't be prepped before they get up, I have a snack for them to munch on while I make their breakfast. To appease myself, I routinely go for a breakfast smoothie and make this either before I get the twins up or while the twins are eating their breakfast.
Lately, I have been obsessed with the flavors in this Banana-Strawberry-Mango Protein Smoothie. It's super simple and so quick that it fits perfectly in my family's morning routine and keeps me full until about 10 a.m., when I have a snack. Double bonus are the health benefits. If you have just worked out, the protein will complement your post-workout recovery. The banana is a natural sweetener, so no need to add any sugar or honey to this smoothie, plus bananas are essentially the best thing you can eat first thing in the morning. According to Health.com, bananas are "resistant starches" - they are healthy carbs that keep you feeling fuller for longer - and they are a good source of potassium which will help to lower blood pressure naturally. Strawberries are naturally rich in Vitamin C, folic acid, and fiber. Finally the Super Fruit - Mango - is just a deliciously amazing healthy treat. So much Vitamin C, Vitamin A, and fiber.
